Save the Land - and Water - and AirRecent study puts Illinois near bottom of States preserving open land. StudyWe are focused on preventing the exploitation of land by developers and corporations for profit. Until there is sensible accounting for the value of natural land, we have to acquire and protect as much land as possible. There are a large number of organizations trying to preserve our natural inheritance. Actually inheritance is the wrong word, Native Americans believe we borrow the Earth and her resources from our children. If we keep that in mind, we might take better care of what we have. When we say land, we also mean the water and air! Did you know that 75% of our oxygen comes from plankton in the seas? And we humans keep dumping our garbage into these same oceans without a second thought. Some of this is because we don't see the actually dumping taking place. It is similar to the problems we had with medical insurance. When we don't see the bills, we don't think about what the cost is of our care. It is only when it impacts us personally that we pay attention. Of course, to change things requires that we have the power to do so. That is something that hasn't happened in the medical care area and seems to be the problem with changing our impact on the environment. Companies are in the position of power and they don't care and are not capable of caring what happens to the environment. What you can do is help us preserve what land we have left.
